The classic car owner’s guide to road readiness

There’s something special about owning a car that has a life of its own. Every curve preserves a part of history and every kilometer on the clock tells a story. To make sure your story lives on, you need to be prepared for whatever lies ahead.

This classic car owner’s guide covers our top tips, as well as a selection of premium OSRAM lighting, care and equipment to keep your vehicle driving safely and looking great.

Breakdown kit essentials

If you don’t drive often, your tyres can deflate. With a TYREinflate 4000 in your boot, that’s never a problem.

As a classic car owner, you can expect the occasional leak. Keep oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid, and water on you at all times.

And, if you need to change fluids or do roadside repairs at night, you’ll need our LEDinspect SLIM 500 and LEDinspect WEARABLE NECKLIGHT.

Ready to protect

Maintenance and safety upgrades

We love original parts on a classic car. However, upgrading your lights is the one exception to the rule. Whether you prefer the classic vintage charm or decide for the modern style of NIGHT BREAKER LED, upgrading your lighting has never been so tempting.

With up to 230% more brightness1, the street-legal2 NIGHT BREAKER LED replacement lamps make it easier to drive safely at night. They look stylish too.

With a warm white color temperature of 2700 K the LEDriving HL Vintage3 creates a stylish old fahioned look. Drivers can enjoy the advantages of the LED technology without impact on the old timer´s aesthetics.

Rubber trims and seals can dry out and weaken over time. Treating them with a rubber care product helps keep them supple and strong.

Ready to impress

Care products and accessories

A big reason why we love classic cars, is the way they look. To keep yours in mint condition, make sure you have the following:

Tyre cleaner, plastic cleaner, window cleaner, polish, an electric buffer, paint and leather repair kits.

Depending on the model, high-quality seat covers can enhance your car’s interior design and protect the original upholstery.

Protect your original interior against sun damage by using a UV protection cleaning spray on your seats and dashboard.

Ready for all conditions

Weather protection tips

Even if you have a garage at home, there will be times when you’re forced to park outside. That’s why every classic car owner should have a waterproof car cover, to protect against dust and rust.

When bugs and grime build up on the radiator, old cars can easily overheat. To prevent this, spray down the engine block with a pressure hose every few months.

Older cars are more prone to dead batteries in the cold. The cold weather charging mode on the Batterycharge 906 protects your battery against low temperatures.

Additional tips

  • Older cars benefit from protective additives. If your classic car is one of these models, purchasing fuel additives, for example, can reduce wear and tear.
  • Does your car radio take cassette tapes? A number of well-known manufacturers offer sound systems for classic cars that look like the original but have all the latest digital technology.
  • Inflate your tyres above standard pressure before long storage periods to avoid flat spots. Just remember to lower the pressure again before you drive.
  • Back in the day, cars didn’t come with blind spot mirrors. Fortunately, there are now aspherical retrofit mirror lenses for a number of vehicle models. If necessary, small, self-adhesive wide-angle mirrors can also be attached to the existing mirror glass.
